Put your list to work

Small tools for real occasions

A class roster, a meeting agenda or a list of ideas can all be a starting point. Choose the activity first, then the tool.

Classrooms & study groups

Use the wheel to reveal the next speaker, then arrange partners for a peer review or language exercise. Add a class label when students share a name.

Everyday choices

Pick a weekend activity from your shortlist, or shuffle the order of a reading list. The entries can be ideas, tasks or places as well as people.

A little preparation goes a long way

One list. Three simple steps.

  1. Prepare your entries

Paste one person or option per line. Use a surname or a short label to tell people with the same first name apart, and remove anyone who is not taking part.

  2. Agree on the rules

Decide how many names to draw, how large the groups should be or what to do with an odd number of people. Set the rules before you reveal a result.

  3. Run it, then save it

Check the output and copy the result before leaving the page. Where a tool offers a download or print button, use it to keep a copy for your activity.

Questions before you start

Practical answers about entries, results and what happens to your list.

Read the getting-started guide
Are all 36 tools free to use?

Yes. You can open any of the 36 tools without an account, subscription or installation. They run in your browser on desktop and mobile. JavaScript is needed to generate results; this guide and its questions remain readable without it.

What happens if two people have the same name?

Repeated entries are kept separately by default, so two people called Alex can both participate. Add a surname, initial or other label if you need to distinguish them. The name picker also offers an option to merge identical names; leave it off when the entries represent different people.

Can I stop the same person being picked again?

In the name picker, choose no repeats within a draw and enable exclusion across rounds if you want selected entries to stay out of later draws. On the wheel, enable removal after a win. These rules apply to entries: two separate entries with identical text can still produce the same displayed name. The student picker excludes previous selections within the current lesson. Weighted picking uses replacement and can repeat an option. Raffle drawing excludes winning entry IDs across prizes by default; enabling repeats uses replacement for every slot.

What if the number of people does not divide evenly?

The group generator balances group sizes so they differ by at most one person: ten people in three groups gives sizes of four, three and three. For pairs, choose a trio or one named person sitting out. With seven people, that means two pairs plus a trio, or three pairs plus a bye.

Will a new shuffle or pairing always be different?

A fresh random draw can repeat earlier results. The basic list, group and pair tools do not track past rounds. Partner Rotation Generator plans a complete no-repeat cycle for pairs or rotating byes, then reports repeats beyond the cycle. Trio rotation and history-aware groups reduce repeats with explicit metrics and limited-search guarantees.

Is my list uploaded or saved when I leave?

Tools process entries locally without uploading lists. Student rosters require Save class. Raffle events and history-aware groups also require explicit local saving, with another save after new records. Other tools do not save inputs. Nothing syncs automatically across tools or devices, and page links contain no roster.

Can I copy, download or print the results?

All 36 tools offer a copy action. The name picker can download TXT results; the group generator and list randomizer offer TXT and CSV downloads. The pair generator has a print layout that includes the trio or bye when present. The wheel lets you copy the selected entry. The student picker copies this lesson’s selection history. Weighted picking copies the current result or recent history. Raffle awards can be copied, printed, or downloaded as CSV. Balanced teams can be copied in full or downloaded as CSV. History-aware groups copy a candidate or selected round and export complete history as CSV or a restorable JSON backup. Presentation order copies, prints or exports the full agenda with planned slots and completion status. Seating charts copy, print or export every physical cell as CSV. Partner rotations copy, print or export the complete multi-round plan as CSV. Constrained groups copy, print or export every member as CSV. Station rotations export the full timed matrix by copy, CSV or print. Task assignments copy, print or export every required place, including unfilled places. Duty rosters copy, print or export every dated place, including gaps, with personal statistics in copy and print. Breakout assignments copy or print all rooms, download the full roster, and offer a separate Zoom CSV when every email is ready. Workshop allocation copies or prints both attendee and session views and exports every requested place, including gaps, as CSV. Peer reviews copy and print both review directions, export all directed edges as CSV and download reusable ID links as TXT. Tournament brackets copy, print or export all rounds, including byes, pending sources, scores and champion state. Round robin fixtures copy, print or export every cycle and explicit bye rows as CSV. Secret Santa copies or prints one revealed card; full copy, CSV and all-card printing require explicitly opening organizer records. Banquet seating exports every seat at every table. Role assignments offer individual cards and explicitly opened organizer exports. Mentoring exports include every learner and a capacity summary for every mentor. Question picking exports the complete drawn round with completion status; answers require a separate opt-in. Image wheels copy the selected label and entry ID, not pixels. Prize wheels export full award details and inventory summary CSV files. Number picking supports full-batch copy, TXT and CSV downloads in the chosen display order.
